Cold day at the Arb today! Hopefully everyone is thawed out and warmed up. Photos are kind of hit and miss too because of trying to warm up and the camera being slow to focus.

Here is your Christmas Break Practice Schedule again:
Friday 22nd: Practice on your own, so families can get where they need to be for Christmas.Easy Recovery Day
Saturday 23rd-27th: Practice on your own. Varsity is allowed 2 days off during this time, but I would recommend skiing as much as you can. Put in the hours. We need lots of time on snow and endurance. Most days should be long skis and you can change up the paces you are going. Example: one day slow, one day a faster tempo, workout, slow recovery day.
Workout: 1 day you need to do 4 by 5 minutes of a hard sprint. With 2 mins recovery ski in between and a warm-up and cool down before and after.
Thursday 28th and Friday 29th: Practice 2pm (Location will be sent out later)
Saturday 30th: Meet at Northland Arboretum, Brainerd
- 2nd - Hunter
- 6th - Colton Y
- 8th - Jackson
- 4th - Alice
- 8th - Molly
Boys finished 2nd overall, behind Mora, and the girls finished 4th.
Top JV finishers were Jonah and....not sure yet for girls.
Top Jr High finishers were Lindy and Grant.

PreSeason Rankings
"The Minnesota high school Nordic skiing is well underway now in December, though most of the teams still haven’t had the opportunity to strap on their poles and click into skis for some actual on-snow experience. Yet those lucky enough to have man-made snowmaking courses could be racing as soon as this week!"
Well, we don't have man-made snowmaking courses but that's never stopped us before. Both Hunter and Colton Y are noted individually as being in the top 20, and the boys' team is "on the cusp" of the top 10 -- along with Cathedral/Sartell and Brainerd. In our Section, the Moorhead and Brainerd girls' teams are also on the cusp but it remains to be seen if they'll be able to stay ahead of our returning varsity skiers and upcoming young skiers.

USSPC Ski Poles
If you're interested in ordering the USSPC ski poles with the Little Falls Flyer art on them:
- 10+ ordered at the same time will save $10 each set.
- We've hit that number so if you are thinking about ordering, you can save some $ by getting in on this initial order.
- If you know the size of pole you need, that will save Joe some time and also will reduce the waste when he cuts off the extra carbon.
- Dave would like to get the order in so the poles are here the week after Thanksgiving.
Contact Dave at Touright asap if you want to add to the order or if you already ordered but need to tell him what size poles you need.

A Reminder and Some News
Reminder: Nordic Parent Meeting is tomorrow (Thursday) at 5:30 in the High School Commons. There may have been an announcement at the high school that incorrectly said the meeting was at 5 pm, but the correct time is 5:30.
There's a link in the right sidebar of the blog for Nordic Buy & Sell. If you're looking for equipment for your kids, you can check there to see what's available. I noticed that someone posted this week about boots and equipment for a younger (smaller) skier.
A little bit late, but here's some highlights from the Minnesota High School Nordic Coaches Association Fall Meeting in October:
- Gunner Kleinschmidt, who won our Section's Volunteer of the Year last February, also earned State Volunteer of the Year for last season. Congrats!
- New pole length restrictions will be enforced this season. Classic poles can be no greater than 83% of height of the skier (100% of height for skate poles). Measurement was defined as the athlete in shoes/boots (not on skis), with pole tip in ground and measured to top of the strap attachment.
- When Giants Ridge contract ends, possible state meet venues could be Theodore Wirth in the Twin Cities and the Grand Avenue Nordic complex at Spirit Mountain in Duluth (expected to open fall 2018).

Nordic Ski Apparel Order
Our e-store is open! There are several items that offer the option to add a name and/or art to the back. You'll see that option after you choose your size and click "Add to Cart". The art on the back is the same for all items, but it's not shown for every item. I think the only one that actually shows the art is the long sleeved t-shirt. This is what it will look like and you can add it for most if not all shirts.
Here's the sell sheet with the link to the e-store at the top:

Sneak peek at the apparel order will be coming to the blog soon! Spectrum is setting up an online store for us this year so you don't have to send cash or checks to school with your skier and just hope for the best. 😀 If you prefer paying with cash or check, you'll be able to do that by contacting Amber at Spectrum. Clothing samples will be available at the parent meeting.
Veteran ski families: New skiers are always looking for used equipment so if you have any outgrown or no longer used ski items, bring them to the parent meeting. We'll have a table set up where you can sell them. Boots are always in high demand.
Dave from Touright will be back again this year with lobster mitts, buffs, and other ski accessories. Dave's a big fan of our program and we're so lucky to have a local source for ski gear!
As the season gets closer, new info will be added to the blog so please sign up for notifications if you're not already receiving them. Also, if you know of new ski families, please send them a link to the blog so they can sign up and get the details too.

Charlie Banks Relay and State Meet
Little Falls brought close to 30 kids to Giants Ridge for both the Charlie Banks Relay and the State Meet. It's incredible to see the snow conditions that exist and the trails that other teams get to train on all season, outside of our part of the state. Our kids represented Little Falls well! Congratulations to all of them on another great season!

Statebound Flyers!
Skinnyski's recap on Feb 7: Racing in mid-winter conditions at Maplelag Resort, Section 8 held their championships on Tuesday. Kendal Hendrickson and Hunter Zupko, Little Falls skiers, dominated their respective divisions, posting the top times in both skate and classical to win the individual titles. Little Falls also qualified both their teams for State, with the girls taking first with Bemidji second, and the Little Falls boys finishing second to the team champs Brainerd.
VS. their Section Prediction from Feb. 5: Kendal Hendricks and Hunter Zupko of Little Falls are the section individual favorites, but St. Cloud Cathedral-Sartell's Alex Nemeth will ensure Zupko has to work for it. Brainerd boys and Little Falls girls should repeat as section champions, with runners up most likely being earned by St. Cloud Cathedral boys and Brainerd girls.
Turns out, the outcome was slightly different than the prediction! Congrats to all the Flyer skiers on a great Section meet!!

Section 8 T-Shirts
Section T-shirts can be pre-ordered this week. We have to have a really quick turnaround time on the forms in order to get the shirts back before the Section meet, so forms have to be turned in to our coaches or managers by the end of practice on Thursday. Unfortunately, we won't be able to include orders that come in on Friday.
You can view/download/print the order form by clicking the image below.

Bemidji Invitational Results and Photos
Flyers dominated yesterday at Buena Vista, even though the snow conditions made everything extra challenging. Our Varsity girls and boys both were team champions - the boys beating Brainerd for the first time this year, Kendal and Hunter both were individual champions, Brett won the boys JV race, and the varsity girls took ALL 5 of the top spots! This, in addition to lots of solid performances from Jr High on up to Varsity.
Results - Varsity only :(

Flyer Invite Results and Photos
Our home meet at Ripley was a pretty big success. Great weather and snow, lots of teams, top individual finishers for boys and girls, top girls team, and a successful fundraiser. The concessions brought in over $700 so a huge thanks to all of the parents who donated food and supplies, worked at the concessions table, transported everything out to camp, and purchased lunch or snacks at the meet.
Coach Wasland also asked that I pass on "my sincere appreciation to all the parents who helped make our home meet such a success. You were all great. I had great praise from the coaches and teams that attended and much of the credit goes to our workers and parents."
Hopefully we'll get some snow so that we can host our Section 8 Meet at Camp on February 7th.

Camp Ripley Meet Info
Specific info about the meet (schedule, etc.) will be coming out soon. The info below is from parents coordinating volunteers and concessions. A lot of help is needed to host a meet this size! If you're not able to be there the day of the meet, please consider donating some needed items. The concession stand can be a great fundraiser for our team.
*************************************************
Our home meet is right around the corner (Monday Jan 16th) and we are hosting it at Camp Ripley, out on their Biathlon course. We haven't hosted a home meet at home for several years, so there are a few things that may be helpful to know:
- The meet will start at 10am, but the race schedule has not been released yet. It usually would last until mid-afternoon. There should be signs, but if you aren't sure where you are going, the gate house attendant can give you a map and directions.
- It is approximately 20 minutes from the main gates to the course, so plan accordingly if you are planning to watch a race. The last time we raced out there the back roads were pretty snow packed so cars with low clearance had a tough time.
- We are going to have a table with food for our kids to eat, and there will be a concession stand. Between the two, your skiers probably won't need to pack a lunch. We will be selling a sub, chips and cookie for $5, and our food table will have more options. Also, we are selling hot chocolate for $1, but we are not selling Gatorade this year.
- Space will be limited, so there won't be room for lots of belongings. Thankfully, the weather is supposed to be nice and we are close to home. Having your skier pack thoughtfully will lessen stress and confusion.
- We need lots of help! There is a website sign-up sheet to either help with food for the concession stands or time on the day of the race. You should be getting an email from "Signup.com," but the link is here if you missed it: http://signup.com/go/3HgfRh
We look forward to seeing you Monday, and good luck to the Mesabi skiers!!!
Detroit Lakes Results and Photos
The varsity girls took first and the boys placed second (behind Brainerd) at Detroit Mountain. Hunter and Kendal were the individual champs and both teams had 3 skiers in the top 10. Overall, a great showing for all of our skiers!

Changes to Jan 3 Meet
Snow conditions are pretty awful and what might happen in the next 48 hours is a little up in the air too. There will probably be a last minute decision made on the meet based upon how much snow St Cloud gets.
