Nordic Season Starting

We're only a little over a week away from the start of the Nordic Ski season!

Remember that a current physical must be on file in order to practice. Physicals are good for 3 years. If you're not sure if your skier's physical is up to date, call the Activities Office at 320-616-2206.

You also need to register for Nordic Ski! If you registered for a fall sport and did not add Nordic Ski at that time, do not complete another registration. Just call the Activities Office to add your winter sport.

Some dates to be tracking:

Sat / Nov. 9: Brainerd Nordic Ski Club Ski Swap @Forestview MS -- 9:00 - Noon
Mon / Nov. 11: First day of practice for High School
Wed / Nov. 13: First day of practice for Middle School
Thurs / Nov. 14: Parent Meeting in High School Commons**
Sat / Nov. 16: MyXChange Swap & Expo @Fort Snelling -- 9:00 - 1:30

**Parent Meeting on Nov. 14:
  • There's a lot of new info for parents and skiers so please plan to attend.
  • Dave from Touright Bike Shop will be a the parent meeting again with info, gear, and clothing (including lobster mitts). Cash or checks preferred.
  • The Nordic Ski apparel storefront will be open and we'll have samples for you to look at/try on
  • Info on team meals, equipment, uniforms, and much more

One final thing.....Every year there are skis, poles, roller skis, and uniforms that don't get turned in at the end of the season. Please do a quick search of closets and garages for anything that should be coming back to the school. Thank you!

Section 8 Meet - Feb 5 @Camp Ripley

2019 Section 8 Nordic Ski Meet

Date: Tuesday February 5th 2019
Location: Camp Ripley F-Range

Schedule:

  • 9:00     Coach’s Meeting
  • 10:00    Boys Varsity: Classical
  • 11:00    Girls Varsity: Classical
  • 1:30     Boys Varsity: Freestyle Pursuit
  • 2:30    Girls Varsity: Freestyle Pursuit
  • 4:00 - 4:15    Awards Ceremony

Starting Procedure:
The Classical Race will be an Interval Start with one skier departing every 15 seconds out of 2 start lanes. The Freestyle Race will be a Pursuit Start with 3 starting lanes.

Timing, Scoring, and Tie-breaking procedures (in case you're wondering how it all works):
All timing will be to the tenth of a second using chip timing. Pursuit race places will be
determined by the order in which the skier crosses the finish line. A skier must
complete both races to receive team points. A skier must complete the first race in
order to compete in the pursuit race. The first place skier will be assigned 100 team
points and each subsequent finisher will be assigned one less point than the finisher
ahead of them. The tie breaking procedure to determine the advancement to the state
meet by an individual will be by a coin flip. The tie breaking procedure for team
placing will be determined by adding the times of the top 4 pursuit skiers from each
team. The fastest combined team time will win.

MSHSL Rules and Policies, MSHSL Nordic Ski Racing Rules Modifications, and MSHSL By-Laws apply to Section competition. Rules & Policies are linked in the right sidebar of the blog and include guidelines for teams, skiers, uniforms, and spectator behavior. Signage, noisemakers, spectators skiing, and a few other things that are fine during the regular season are regulated during Section meets.
