First Meet Results

First Meet Results

Some of our JV/Varsity athletes raced yesterday at Detroit Mountain! The results can be found here:

Varsity Boys Results

Varsity Girls Results

JV Boys

A note from Coach Mattia Hendrickson:

The boys finished 2nd as a whole team. Out of 22 relay teams, Connor Grant and Alex Oberton finished 3rd. Ethan Yorek and Elliot Oberton finished 5th and Angus Rustad and Edward Sobiech finished 10th.

The girls finished 4th as a whole team. The relay team of Beth Ahlin and Ainsley Kresha finished 7th. Aliza Kresha and Sarah Wolbeck finished 9th.

JV:
Chase Olsen finished 10th in the JV race.

Due to no snow, this was the first time the majority of the team put their skis on for the season. In addition, the athletes had to ski up a downhill ski course. Both the boys and girls competed well in the difficult racing conditions.

***Our next meet is Tuesday, December 7th at Detroit Mountain - ALL skiers will have the opportunity to race!

State Meet 2021 & Miscellaneous

Post Ski Banquet, I'm finally getting out a recap of the state meet. Before that though, congratulations to all the skiers on a fantastic season! Really, it's the season that almost wasn't. Like Mattia said -- a late start, COVID restrictions, weather that was too cold and then too warm, not enough snow, and practicing skiing in circles at the golf course. Everyone who has skied prior to this season knows how strange it all was. Hopefully all the new skiers will come back for a normal  <fingers crossed> season next year.

The state meet last week was warm and sunny. Girls skied Thursday; boys on Friday. Congratulations to all of the state meet qualifiers for all their achievements leading up to and at the state meet. Jackson's 4th place finish was the best finish in Little Falls Nordic Ski history, and one of the highest achievements of any Little Falls athlete regardless of sport.

Skinnyski's state meet recap included the photo and paragraph below:

Each State Meet brings great surprises and even in a pandemic format, there were still some great stories. Little Falls Jackson Grant (unranked) rocked the boys field with a stunning classic race, perhaps pressed on by his pairing with Colin Freed. Grant, who won only one conference race all season, put in the performance of his high school career taking fourth in the classic and following up with fifth best in the skate to finish in fourth place overall!

Finally, a couple of notes:

1. Watch for info coming soon on our 2nd Annual Brewskis for New Skis fundraiser. The first was a huge success and a lot of fun. We had to postpone the event last August but are planning for this summer. There are lots of ways to get involved and help! More to come.

2. The slideshow from the banquet is linked in the right sidebar under "Important Links" if you missed it or want to see it again.

Fergus Falls Invite - Results and Photos

We got to ski Spidahl's Ski Gaard on Thursday for the first time in many years. Fresh snow and hills, so very different than the skiing in Little Falls this year!

Photo Album -- frozen camera batteries shut me down early in the day  :(

We also learned this week that the MSHSL made some decisions about the winter sports state tournaments. Nordic Ski is scheduled for March 12 at Giant's Ridge (tentatively). That's Eli representing LF in the photo on the MSHSL page!  :)

Skinnyski also published Round 3 of their high school rankings, which has our boys' team and the Brainerd boys' team in the top 10 in the state and two of the Bemidji boys on the cusp of the top 10 as individuals.

Flyer Buffs & 2nd Chance for Nordic Apparel

The MSHSL rules for masks limit skiers to buffs/masks that are "black, white, or beige or school colors. These may include only the school names and/or mascot". If you're looking for a buff that meets this criteria, we have a limited number of Flyer buffs available for sale. The buffs are $13 and can be purchased from the coaches at practice. Please make checks payable to: Flyer Nordic Ski Club.

We are also re-opening the Nordic Apparel Order. If you are interested in ordering, you can do so online. The storefront will close next Friday, January 15th. When the clothing items become available, coaches will distribute them at practice. If you prefer, you can have them shipped to you (for a fee) or you can put a note in the comments that you would like them to go to you, rather than your skier, and I'll contact you to work out a time to meet.

CLICK HERE to visit the storefront.

Notes about the storefront:

*You will get an email confirmation that your order was placed. If you do not get an email, you did not fully finish the process.

*In the checkout process, you can pay to have garments shipped to your home, or if you click on "Pickup In Store or Team Delivery", the coaches will distribute the orders when they become available.

*You are able to pay with whatever method is most convenient, including PayPal, credit, or debit card. The first step is the yellow check out with PayPal button, which will bring you to the next screen to select your payment method.

*If you have questions about ordering or the clothing items, please email Brenda from The Clothesline/Becker Screen Printing at theclothesline@centurylink.net.

*If you have questions about delivery/pick up, please call Julie 218-330-4787.
