Let's Wax Skis!

What in the world is going on with MN weather? Let's make the best of it and enjoy the snow!

Jordan groomed the LF golf course tonight. It is ready for skiing! This is a unique opportunity for you to prepare for the season by working on technique and endurance, so you can enter the season more in shape and ready to improve. Of course, this is optional and not by any means mandatory.

With the start distance learning, we have an interesting situation. Tomorrow after school you are allowed to prep your personal skis in order to ski on your own. After tomorrow, once distance learning starts, out of season coaches are not allowed to contact athletes due to distance learning parameters. Because of this, waxing skis has to happen tomorrow. If you cannot wax your skis tomorrow, you could simply stop by and grab a scraper to take home and make due the best you can. With the short notice for everyone including coaches, we will not be handing out school skis. Sorry!

Zean will be opening the wax shed after school at 3:15. Please email him, so he knows you are coming and can plan accordingly. (zbaker@lfalls.k12.mn.us)

2nd Annual Brewskis for New Skis

Our second annual Brewskis for New Skis is Saturday, September 26th, 2:00-10:00 pm at Starry Eyed Brewery.

This fundraising event is incredibly important to our program this year because we weren't able to work a parking lot at the Craft Fair this year. For over a decade we've been able to raise money parking cars and now we're without those essential dollars for bussing, food, and equipment.

Last year we made over $4000 at the Brewskis event. This money went directly into our program for our kids. We were able to buy 8 pairs of skis, a couple of pairs of boots and much needed new uniforms.

We're cued up for another great event and have a list of generous sponsors, the FAB food trailer, food donations, and gift basket donations. What we really need now is volunteers on the day of the event. Please consider signing up for a two hour block of time to work in the food trailer or sell tickets.

Here's the link to add your name to the list of awesome skiers and ski families >>  SIGN ME UP!

Section 8 Meet: Results & Photos

It was a great day of racing at Maplelag for all of our skiers. After tying with Bemidji the boys came out ahead on the tiebreaker and qualified for the state meet!

Skinnyski's summary of our Section event provided by Jay Richards: Maplelag Resort was host to Section 8 Nordic Ski Championships under a beautiful sunny day. Temperatures down to negative double digits set the deck up hard overnight making for fast conditions but warming up quickly and softening the snow as the day passed. In the girls race, Moorhead freshmen Abbie Ishaug who has come on in the Section the second half of the year, put a dominating performance in the skate race, building up a 30 second lead, and was able to hang on for the overall pursuit title over a chasing Gwendoline Youso from Bemidji, Kaisa Bosek from Alexandria and favorite Wren Scott-Lumbar from St. Cloud Tech. Ishaug's strong performance led the Moorhead girls team to it's first ever title in just five years of existence. Brainerd girls took the second spot by just one point over Alexandria. In the boys race, it was the Nemeth brothers from Sartell Cathedral stealing the show at the top as both brothers posted the same time in the skate race. The classic pursuit race saw little change in the top 10 as the Nemeth boys battled for the top spot with Zach taking the win over Will by 11 seconds after Will caught an edge on a corner near the end of the race. Jackson Grant of Little Falls took the third spot 20 seconds back from Will. Just like the girls, the racing was tight as the overall title went to defending Section and State Champs Sartell Cathedral. Second place saw a tie between Little Falls and Bemidji with Little Falls taking the win by just four seconds on the combined time of the top four skiers.

The boys Varsity took first place and put 4 skiers in the top 10, including Jackson's 1st place finish. They brought home the wooden ski traveling trophy. The girls Varsity put 3 skiers in the top 10 and placed 3rd overall.

    LF Invite Results & Photos

Another excellent home meet at Camp Ripley! Thank you to all of the parents who donated items to the concessions stand, helped keep our skiers fed all day, worked in the building, and helped outside with bibs and timing. There are so many things happening throughout the day and it takes a lot of people to make it all happen as smoothly as it did.

Congrats to all of our skiers for the great races on a challenging course with challenging snow conditions. Girls Varsity placed 6th and Boys Varsity placed 2nd, just 3 point behind Bemidji. Top 10 finishers were:

    • Varsity: Jackson, Mac, Ethan
    • JV: Elliot, Gabe
