We are so proud of all of our skiers who raced at the Section 8 meet yesterday!

The girls took 6th place out of 12 teams and put 2 girls in the top 20 (Beth Ahlin 16th & Aliza Kresh 17th). Our sprint relay team made the final (Molly Petrowitz & Issy Segler) which was an awesome experience. Congrats to entire girls team on an excellent season. We are proud of you!

The boys won the Section title (the first win in about 12 years & Mattia's first Section win as a head coach). Connor Grant won the Pursuit race & Ethan Yorek came in third. Our sprint relay team (Eddie Sobiech and Elliot Oberton) took second place by just a few seconds. It was a battle with Bemidji to the end! End of Season Stuff-

  • If you are not skiing on the section team, competition is now done. We have talked to you about keeping your checked out ski equipment until the snow is gone so you can continue to ski on your own for fun. We encourage you to do this.

  • If you are choosing to turn in your equipment now, there will be two opportunities this week to do so. Monday and Thursday after school until 4:00 Manon and Sarah will be in the ski room to check in equipment and uniforms.

  • Uniforms should be washed, folded and placed in the purple uniform bag. If you are keeping equipment, you can still check in your uniforms.

  • Also, this will be your final opportunity to hand in coupon book money and pick up your sweatshirt. We do have a few books left if you are trying to win some gift cards. We have prizes for the top 4 sellers!

Banquet Info-

We will have an end of season banquet at the Falls Ballroom after the conclusion of the season. We are still finalizing the date and details. Stay tuned for more information!

Sections Info-

The sections team leaves tomorrow morning at 9 AM and race on both Tuesday and Wednesday at Maplelag Resort. We can't wait to see what these athletes accomplish!! GO FLYERS!

Varsity Boys Results

Varsity Girls Results

JV Boys

A note from Coach Mattia Hendrickson:

The boys finished 2nd as a whole team. Out of 22 relay teams, Connor Grant and Alex Oberton finished 3rd. Ethan Yorek and Elliot Oberton finished 5th and Angus Rustad and Edward Sobiech finished 10th.

The girls finished 4th as a whole team. The relay team of Beth Ahlin and Ainsley Kresha finished 7th. Aliza Kresha and Sarah Wolbeck finished 9th.

JV:
Chase Olsen finished 10th in the JV race.

Due to no snow, this was the first time the majority of the team put their skis on for the season. In addition, the athletes had to ski up a downhill ski course. Both the boys and girls competed well in the difficult racing conditions.

***Our next meet is Tuesday, December 7th at Detroit Mountain - ALL skiers will have the opportunity to race!

State Meet 2021 & Miscellaneous

Post Ski Banquet, I'm finally getting out a recap of the state meet. Before that though, congratulations to all the skiers on a fantastic season! Really, it's the season that almost wasn't. Like Mattia said -- a late start, COVID restrictions, weather that was too cold and then too warm, not enough snow, and practicing skiing in circles at the golf course. Everyone who has skied prior to this season knows how strange it all was. Hopefully all the new skiers will come back for a normal  <fingers crossed> season next year.

The state meet last week was warm and sunny. Girls skied Thursday; boys on Friday. Congratulations to all of the state meet qualifiers for all their achievements leading up to and at the state meet. Jackson's 4th place finish was the best finish in Little Falls Nordic Ski history, and one of the highest achievements of any Little Falls athlete regardless of sport.

Skinnyski's state meet recap included the photo and paragraph below:

Each State Meet brings great surprises and even in a pandemic format, there were still some great stories. Little Falls Jackson Grant (unranked) rocked the boys field with a stunning classic race, perhaps pressed on by his pairing with Colin Freed. Grant, who won only one conference race all season, put in the performance of his high school career taking fourth in the classic and following up with fifth best in the skate to finish in fourth place overall!

Finally, a couple of notes:

1. Watch for info coming soon on our 2nd Annual Brewskis for New Skis fundraiser. The first was a huge success and a lot of fun. We had to postpone the event last August but are planning for this summer. There are lots of ways to get involved and help! More to come.

2. The slideshow from the banquet is linked in the right sidebar under "Important Links" if you missed it or want to see it again.
