Starting Procedure:
The Classical Race will be an Interval Start with one skier departing every 15 seconds out of 2 start lanes. The Freestyle Race will be a Pursuit Start with 3 starting lanes.
Timing, Scoring, and Tie-breaking procedures (in case you're wondering how it all works):
All timing will be to the tenth of a second using chip timing. Pursuit race places will be
determined by the order in which the skier crosses the finish line. A skier must
complete both races to receive team points. A skier must complete the first race in
order to compete in the pursuit race. The first place skier will be assigned 100 team
points and each subsequent finisher will be assigned one less point than the finisher
ahead of them. The tie breaking procedure to determine the advancement to the state
meet by an individual will be by a coin flip. The tie breaking procedure for team
placing will be determined by adding the times of the top 4 pursuit skiers from each
team. The fastest combined team time will win.
MSHSL Rules and Policies, MSHSL Nordic Ski Racing Rules Modifications, and MSHSL By-Laws apply to Section competition. Rules & Policies are linked in the right sidebar of the blog and include guidelines for teams, skiers, uniforms, and spectator behavior. Signage, noisemakers, spectators skiing, and a few other things that are fine during the regular season are regulated during Section meets.
